"From adoption to implementation" Welcome to the site for the 3rd International ODF User Workshop on 25-26 August 2009 in Brasilia. The event, organized by the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, SERPRO (Federal Service for Data Processing - Ministry of Finance, Brazil) and Caixa Econômica Federal in collaboration with the OpenDocument Format Alliance (ODF Alliance), will bring together officials from governments around the world that have already made the move to ODF or are actively considering how best to utilize an open format to preserve access to documents and increase choice of software for governments and citizens alike - and save some money in the process. This is the third in a series of workshops focused exclusively on the needs of the public sector, in particular governments. The first ODF workshop in Berlin, Germany, in October 2007 focused on policy adoption. The second ODF workshop in Pretoria, South Africa in October 2008 focused on ODF implementation. Since then the value proposition of ODF has been improved greatly with the imminent arrival of ODF 1.2, with metadata, spreadsheet formula and digital signature support, among other major enhancements, and several initiatives to improve interoperability between and among the growing ranks and range of ODF-supporting software applications. Our conference track this year will balance ODF adoption policies and benefits with success cases of ODF implementation at federal and regional levels. The first day of the event (August 25) will be held at the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Itamaraty Palace) and the second day of the event (August 26) will be held at CONSEGI, the largest and most important international event about free software and electronic government organized by the Brazilian Federal Government. |
